Driving Safely With Pets
Whether it is a trip to the vet, a short drive to the park, or a family road trip, you will inevitably need to hop in the car with your pet. Just like any other passenger, pets need to be properly secured for the safety of both the animal and other passengers. To keep all pets and passengers safe in the car, check out the following tips:
Keep pets in carriers while in the car. No matter the size, pets roaming the vehicle can be dangerous. They can be distracting to drivers and could be a dangerous projectile in the unfortunate event of a crash.
Keep pets comfortable. Place the carrier in a well-ventilated area and bring a favorite toy. If they are comfortable, it may elevate stress for both the pets and other passengers.
Store pets’ toys, food bowls, leashes, and other objects to avoid loose objects becoming dangerous projectiles.
Never leave pets in the car. Even with windows open, the temperature inside cars can quickly rise to dangerous levels.
Check with your local DMV and veterinarian for more information in regards to your specific situation.
